What a week..

Been so busy that I’ve not had the time to do an update each day. Friday was very undecided day, I was picking Nigel up but we couldn’t decide where to go.. we had the choice of the £25 + 1 rebuy and 1 add on in the gala leeds or DTD £75 freezeout. There is pennys between each one but the comp in leeds is softer but ( as I found out ) the play is much much worse.

The rebuy period is 1hour where you can have your 1 or 2 rebuys ( if you have the 2nd rebuy you cannot have an add on) the starting stack is 5k and I finish the hour without taking the rebuy and sitting on 21k. I generally take the addon cause it’s 5k and it’s always handy !

I got to this stack by some good solid play but the majority came from a semi bluff that never got called ( thank the poker gods !! ) anyhow I sit for a round or so and don’t play a hand, The table is so passive I make a button raise with K 10 suited. I get a call from a semi tight player who limped UTG+1

Board came 9 J 4 rainbow but with 1 diamond, Now I know I’ve missed but the check from the player give me to chance to take to pot down here cause I think he’s hit none of it anyhow.. I bet out 1500 ( about pot sized bet) and I get a call.. Now that worries me .. this guy has not called with a draw all night and since I’ve got the top draw for the straight I think the best he can have is trip jacks and slow playing them. The turn comes the miracle Queen of diamonds ! I’ve made my straight and I have to put him behind now and I don’t think he’s getting away from his hand because of the call on the flop. I bet out 3000… he insta calls again ! BINGO !! he must have trips now.. I know if the board doesn’t pair I’m taking all his chips… River comes rag diamond so the board is showing a flush but it’s runner runner and I cannot see this guy calling on the flop for a runner runner flush. I bet out 4k and he re raises all in for 6.5k 2.5k more for me to call and I think I get the 2.5 k and say call before he’s got his chips over the line..

I show the straight and the guy turns over AK Diamonds. I look in absolute disbelief.. he’s called a pot sized bet on the flop with ace high. The called another ¾ pot bet on the turn with just the flush draw in effect !!! Why can players not lay down AK.. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope someone listens, AK is not the be all and end all of hands.. it’s a nice hand but if you miss it’s still only ace high


I end up tilting a bit and end up going out pushing with 2nd pair into a set of 3’s but I push and made the move… at least I didn’t call !!

Nigel ended up making the final and chopping the pot for £400 ( and my 50% is good ) so a profit on the night.

Saturday saw me being totall knackered and after agreeing to go to DTD for the £50 I fell asleep at about 2pm and didn’t wake up till 7pm.. I needed SSS and dinner so I just chilled in the end and played a bit online..

I awoke on Sunday really refreshed and had a few bits to do in the morning.. a trip to meadowhall and then some running about got me back in the house at about 12pm. Now since my move to betfair from Mansion I’ve been doing quite well in the super turbo tourneys and Saturday was no different.. 157 runners and I finished 3rd for $200.. not bad for a $10 investment..

Now Sunday for me has always been a Sheffield afternoon comp day.. it doesn’t make the best money in the world, it doesn’t have the best players in the world but it’s where I started with my game about 4 years ago and I do like playing there…. Not as much now but with a lot of the players there it’s always a good laugh and I get to catch up with people like Mick C, Ros, and a few others..

Now Sheffield has gone self deal over the last few months and since I’m not a bad dealer people enjoy getting on the table I’m dealing.. ( plus I get £20 and a free meal from the casino for dealing ) so the comp can be free… I end the rebuy period with 12k in chips after just 1 rebuy.. so I have the top up knowing I’ve got £20 coming so the comp will have cost me £10 cutting a long story short I end up chopping it 3 ways for £300.

Now I went to DTD last night and managed to run JJ into QQ on a 7 high board.. but got all my money back and a bit extra from cash !!

Well it’s Thursday morning and I’ve no idea what to do tonight……. Sooooo much happens on a Thursday it’s hard to decide

Been a few days !!

And i've had some ups and downs !! No not those sorts you mucky minded buggers !!

managed to get deep but off the money at DTD on saturday night.. but got down to 5 big blinds and shoved it in with 55.. only to find KK and 88 !! king on the flop and i'm drawing thin...

Sunday played the £10 bingo bango rebuy at sheffield.. did nothing but freerolled it with a £20 win on blackjack and then headed to DTD... missed the scalps comp because of something so an eventless night really ..

onlines been a bit hectic to say the least and when dave from badbeat gets my pokermon working again i'll post some hands up..

Short and sweet this one but tomorrow off work so to DTD tonight for the £50... Lets just ship it one time !!

Friday Night/ Saturday Morning.

Well last night was a bit of a none event.. played a bit online and managed to slide away a buy in on .25/.50 so $50 down.. one had really.. thought i was ahead but even if i wasn't i had outs i figured... heres the hand.. i don't think i played it that badly i'd already made the decision i was check calling on the turn so the push just looked weak, Nice hand sir.. well played !

But it wasn't late December 1963 !!

After the move by mansion to ipoker i've moved my badbeat account to Betfair.. Thanks to Laura and Sandy for making this soo painless and quick.

BUT ! ahh the software is so different to what i'm used to so another learning curve for me, Andy's going to give me a hand and also drop me his fish farm notes ( cheers pal !)

hands are all loading nice into pokermon but theres another little feature that i've not been used too thats quite handy.. when it gets to a showdown and the player mucks his cards a little box appears in the bottom corner showing me his mucked hand.. now i know you can get this info from the hand history but come on how many of us do this when we are playing 4 tables.

so it's about 6:45 and i head off to pick nigel up to play cash at Owlerton. Now let me warn you.. Owlertons thursday cash game is a little "active" to say the least.. full of gamblers not poker players. The £5 to £20 blind call is more often than not and it's not un-normal to have a pre flop pot of £100+ ! the gamblers were in full force so i tend to sit with £20 and i know if i get my money in good and hold up i'm going to be walking away with £100+ from one pot. i manage to get QQ in late position and quadruple up. Sitting TAG again i pass pass pass to he gamblers until the last pot of the night.. i'm sat with £90. theres a pre flop blind bet of £5 and there are 6 callers. i look down and see AA so i know a bet of £20 is put in the pot.. and everyone calls either all in .. to cut a story short i see my Aces cracked by Q 9 for a post flop re raise of £55 !

sick sick players but you got to love them and give them a bit back over time.. makes them stay and feel a bit better !

Friday tonight and i've no idea what i'm doing tonight.. Open to offers.. call me you have my number

Wed 25th

Well what a night.... i don't think i've laughed soo much at one persons play.. now normally i wouldn't do this but this guy deserved everything he got..

To listen to him he was the worst tourny player in the world.. " i don't like playing tournys " was one of the off the cuff comments to which i replied " so why do you play them then !"

He was making the most outragious calls.. ( and bets too but i don't mind the bets ) and sucking out on so many players it was unbelieveable... good for the table once we knew what he was like though..

*note to Carla.. Sorry for letting on his tell !! stupid of me !

chips were being pass around like no bodys business and i was just waiting to catch him with a hand..

Now this is where my problem starts.. and i will be discussing this with John Conroy ( my badbeat mentor) I had a situation where i had raised with AQ of spades. the ATM ( thats my name for him and i will point him out to friends for a small fee !) pushes for all his chips pre flop .. The Big blind has 60% of his chips in because of a suckout from the ATM the hand before and the action returns to me.

Now i have a decision to make cause the ATM has me near enough as damn it covered ( i'm left with <1000 chips if i call and lose) so i make what i think is the right decision and lay down AQ spades pre flop... both players are on the backs and BB turns over A 9 ( not bad since he was all in anyhow ) and ATM turns over AJ.. Re raising with AJ !! told you he was a donk !

Anyhow i would have won the hand and took out the ATM or at least crippled him. But this is the problem.. Would you take on the risk that calling an all in with AQ suited for your tourny life.. i'm sure that John will say no but i'll let you know tomorrow..

other than that i finished in 24th position out of about 140 ish.. not a bad result but 10 off the money which upsets me cause i should be doing a lot better in this comp with the amount of avg players that are there.

On the online front my main supplier for online play has just moved to the ipoker network ( Mansion) now to say that ipoker hates me is an understatement so a move to betfair is looking on the cards ( thanks to sandy for sorting this asap .. What a trooper)

so the online hand i'll be showing will be from betfair in the next few weeks.. but the downside is i need another new nick for the software...

Tuesday 23rd !

Well after a real uneventful night i manage to get in about 2 hours play on 2 tables for the massive profit of -$1.46 !! well the rake will cover that no problem anyhow...

But on a side note Well done to Frazer who contacted me when on the final table of the ladbrokes deep stack comp.. i managed to talk him out of a push with AQ os which enabled him not to donk off chips to a tight aggressive raiser who would have only called him with a hand that frazer was losing too. after that it was very ABC .. raising on the cutoff and button.. and then continuation betting on the flop.. he managed to pick up enough blinds to keep him safe until 3 handed when he rivered the full house against the guys nut flush..

Heads up play was a little long winded until the villian flat called the blinds with AK ( not a move i like) and let frazer check the BB with the monster hand of 10 3..

Flop comes 10 10 5 and villian pushes for all his 50k .. frazer insta calls with trip 10's ..

Turn comes Ace giving the villian a 4% chance of another ace but alas for him the river comes blank and frazer takes it down...

Nice one frazer.. your game has improved sooooo much since that young lad playing online a year ago ..


Well Mansions down all day so a day off effectivly.. what will i do with myself !

Over the last 2 weeks I think i'm qualified to say that i hate KK more than i hate JJ !!

If i get them, i lose, if i'm against them i lose.. How can i run soo bad against them and with them i don't know.. the final nail was this from last nights Ireland festival final

Monday 30th

3 words ! I AM KNACKERED !!

Friday night.. played online and entered a comp at about 9pm.. 1107 runners and i place 109th ( in the money) get to bed about 3:30 am..

Awake at 9:30 and do a load of running about ..

5:30 off to DTD for the virgin festival ( didn't have a seat but thought we would go and play the £50)

After a semi bad beat on a guy on the 1st hand

i double up and then really just grind into the final and finish 8th for £201

get in at 5:30am and get up at 12:45 ish. potter about the house and then decide to go to the £10 rebuy at Owlerton.

Great start and after the rebuy period i've got 13.5k and no rebuys ( had a top up cause it was 2k in chips)

3 tables left and i've got 35k ish.. total chips in play is 296k so wit 12% of the chips i sit back and play big hands only..... and as normal.. when you don't really need to get involved they come in abundance i pass more A 10's A J's than i've ever done before .. even to small raises where i would re raise and push them off the pots.

only hand i played was against the biggest chips on the table beside me ( but i do cover him with about 22k !! ) i raise with AK and he flat calls.

now the pot it 5k and he has about 10k left i'm first to act and i tell him before the flop is dealt that my bet is 12k ( enough to cover him) he looks at me puzzled so i say " well even if you push i'm sure i'm ahead ) he incorrectly reads me for AA and passes.

Thats the only read bullying move i made.

anyhow final table comes and people fall but the strangest thing i see is a guy passing ( short stack) for 1.5k when he only has 1k left. he passes to 2 calls and the bb left to act. How much value does he really want for his 1k... This is all pre flop btw

well i end up chopping the pool 4 handed for £380 it's only a little comp but a nice one on a sunday afternoon.

got home at 12:00 midnight and now at work ....

Only really played for an hour.. and beside from sticking my entire stack in on a mis read hand and losing $50 on Hi Low ( god i've got to clean my glasses.) the only other notable hand was this one

Tuesday 24th June

Well thats the first day done with.. i'd love to tell you i sat down with my entire bankroll and blastered the 5/10 tables and made $10k..

Alas as i went back to ipoker from crypto i sat on .25/.50 NLH to re discover the players again

Played 2 tables for about 3 hours each last night.. with an ending profit of ..... -$62.00 ish.

The amount of crap hands i picked up was amazing and it looks like ipoker's not changed since the last time i played it. out of 360 ish odd hands i picked up about 25 pocket pairs..

AA 3 times and a 100% record !! twice picking up the blinds and then once making $25 total pot !

the rest of the pockets pairs lost... KK lost to Ace rag ! with a limp UTG and a re raise to a serial raiser of course he hits his ace on the flop.... but he's only got $5 left in his hand so i take the chance for 2/1

the only real hand i hit was calling what i was 99% certain was a bluff. i had 77 on a 4 4 8 board, I pressed with a bet and he reraises me all in , at this point i'm sure he's not hit the flop and has AQ or AK.. i call and sure enough he's got AK and misses.

well thats about it.. a bit none descript none event full day but it's the first day over and i'll get my account topped back up to $500 today.

and i thought you were supposed to hit trips about 1 in every 5 pocket pairs .. Can someone let ipoker know that cause i think they have forgot ;)

Monday 23rd June

Well..

After an event filled weekend i managed to bust out of the virgin festival Sat with 9 places to go to the seats. I've always said that Sattalite play is different to anything else. to me it's a matter of just getting to the seats. So with this i played uber tight and managed to pick up kings in late position. The blinds are 75/150 and there has been a couple of flat callers. I raise to 725 and get 1 caller. Now the guy who calls has been playing a lot of hands. i normally can put someone on a range of hands but this guy was impossible to do it with.

Board comes K 10 8 2 diamonds. Now i've flopped top trips, but to be honest i'm scared of what he could be holding, Theres a chance he could have JQ,9J or even Ace rag of diamonds. he pops a bet of 400 into the pot and i instantly move all in.. I think if he's got AK he calls. If he's got any drawing hand i think he folds. he has been muttering about " pot odds to call" " i've got value" ( the latter i cannot stand and the reason why later)

anyhow... he ain't got AK cause he thinks for a minute and folds.. i show KK for trips and he taps the table all good.. i don't want anyone drawing to knock me out

So the chips are passed to me and i get a funny luck from a friend of mine.. " What you playing at" he says " Top trips? All in ????" yeah i agree in normal tourny or cash play it's not the best move.. but Sat play i think it's different. ( i'd enjoy your comments on this if anyones reading"

So taking the comments on board we get down to about 31 player with 22 seats available. i've got about 7.5k in chips with the avg being about 6.5k. I pick up pocket 7's in late pos and i call a raise of about 5xbb. Big blind also calls and we see a flop.

K 7 3 rainbow . Again i've flopped 2nd trips. now after taking on board ( rightly or wrongly ) what was said to me by my friend i check the trips after the initial raiser checks. BB pops a bet in of 1000. inital raise folds and i call slow playing the trip 7's

turn come Q spades which now gives 2 spades on the board. i check and the BB bets 1k again. i move all in for about 4.5k ish, he calls instantly with K2 spades top pair and flush draw. The spade comes on the river and i'm to the rails.

Now it ain't a bad beat, i know that, but personally i think if i push on the flop i take it down then. Just like i did with the kings . i wouldn't have been massive in chips but about 10k with quite a few short stacks on the table

I drove home not very happy with my play.

Well other than that todays the day.. E says my account should be credited by 12 so i'll be on later playing for www.badbeat.com

i'll try and post later to let you know how i'm doing but who's knows whats going to happen.

Sunday Morning 7am.

Morning all...

Well standard time to wake.. 7am ! and since everyone else is in bed ( except Beth who's as bad as me ) and still sleeping i thought i'd take the time to do what i said i'd do, Yeah create a blog for my Bad beat experiance.

Well everything is sorted. Pokermon installed and working ( tried some fun hands on Grandslam poker) skype password found ! Mentor added. MSN all tickery boo.

So now it's just a waiting game. Spoke to E at Bad Beat, Money will be in my new account on Grandslam by 12pm tomorrow.

I will not be playing under my normal poker names. as you prolly know i've used "Brother Love" "Bro Love" and other variations.

Well thats about it ! Oh i am playing the Virgin festival sats later at DTD. it's gonna be a squeeze with 30 seats available and 4 of us going down down for it.. and meeting another mate there Lets just hope that well all get a seat
